That night I only meant to open NoomiClone for ten minutes of stress relief. By the time I looked at the clock it was almost midnight, and my character was face-planting into the ground for the fiftieth-something time. I wasn't annoyed. I actually wanted to try again.
No download, no sign-up
NoomiClone is an online game. You open the page, hit play, and the character shows up right in your browser. Even a weak computer is fine, since I have never seen it lag.
I once jumped straight to step 4 on my first day and spent the whole session without regrabbing the bar even once.
The game does not play pre-made animations. It lets physics calculate everything, so a tiny difference changes the result completely. These are the factors that affected me the most:
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Timing of the bar release | Determines height and direction of flight |
| Tucking | Makes the rotation faster |
| Extending | Slows the rotation, making landings easier |
| Posture at touchdown | Decides whether you land on your feet or your head |
The fact that tucking speeds up your spin and extending slows it down is the principle of conservation of angular momentum, and you can read more about it on Wikipedia (Angular momentum). Once I understood that, I felt far more in control instead of pressing buttons on instinct.
Any device with a modern browser can open it, but I find a keyboard gives better control.
For me it took about two to three sessions to land consistently. Long combos need more time.
I have not run into that kind of pressure. You set your own challenges, so it is very easy to play at a relaxed pace.
If you are tired of falling and want a different challenge to sharpen your reflexes, drop by Turbo Type 3D, which also runs right on the web with nothing to download. I like switching between these two games so my brain doesn't get stale.
